Attention Dog Lovers!!

Woofstock is next weekend! For those of you in the Toronto or Central/Southern Ontario area, you should definitly check out this "pawesome" festival! www.woofstock.ca

It's full of vendors, great shows and of course, DOGS!

I'll be out and about with Simba, passing out flyers, and thanks to Pet Cuisine, I may have one of my paintings on display at their booth...so look out for it!

ALSO...debuting will be the newly painted sandwich board for PET CUISINE AND ACCESSORIES (www.petcuisine.ca) store that is located on Front St. in downtown Toronto, right where Woofstock will be taking place! I've been asked to paint a dog and cat portrait on their sandwich board! So check it out, and let me know what you think! (I will post pics when it's completed!)

If you live in the Auburn, Washington area, PLEASE keep an eye out for poor Teddi Sue...who has gone missing, when her owners car was stolen with her inside!

This is D’Ann and my heart is aching terribly. Teddi Sue and I took a trip up to Washington State this past weekend, intending to be home on Monday afternoon. On Monday morning I filled my car’s gas tank, and then stopped to eat a quick breakfast before beginning the 5 hour drive back home to Eugene from Auburn, Washinton. I left Teddi Sue in my locked car, a 1990 white Toyota Camry, in her crate. I had covered the crate with a blanket so that it could not be seen if anyone were to look into my car. It was a sunny day up here, but not overly warm. I ordered my food then went out to check my little sweetie to make sure that it wasn’t getting hot in the car. I got my food and then went back to check her again before I ate. The temp. in the car was comfortable and she was content. I went in, ate my food and paid. I had last checked her no longer than 15 minutes before. When I went out to begin the 5 hour drive home to Eugene, my car, with Teddi Sue inside, was gone. The Auburn police took the report and have issued an alert to look for my car. I am totally devastated and worrying about my baby girl. The police have asked me to remain here in Auburn for the next few days, because if my car, and/or Teddi Sue, are found, it will probably be within the following 2-3 days . I am doing all I can think of to get the word out and look for Teddi Sue. I will let you know, or phone a pal to let you know (if I don’t have computer access) if I find out anything about my darling little girl. Please, please, please pray for my Teddi to come back to me. Ava + Grayce

Here is my latest portrait. Ava Isabella (the Italian Greyhound) and Grayce (the Miniature Pinscher). They are the beloved furbabies of Megan, who also runs an animal rescue, K9 Concierge (see links on the right...).

They are both great dogs, and Grayce, who is trained as a service dog is also a hero. They had a brother, another Min Pin named Tyson, who was ill and one night the carbon monoxide levels rose to an extreme level in their home...as everyone slept, Grayce was able to detect a problem, and dial 911 for help. Unfortunately for Tyson, he didn't make it with a weakened immune system, but this portrait celebrates the two adoptive sisters that help comfort and bring joy to their owner/mother.

Ode to Odin

Well, here is the portrait that started my revelation/revolution of creating Pop Dog Portraits! Beloved Odin, a lab/sheppard mix who crossed the bridge earlier this year. This was my first commission, a christmas gift for parents of Odin's owner Nicole.

I knew Odin, and he was a great dog, beloved family pet and is dearly missed by all. Here's celebrating his life! My ode to Odin.

Sway was there! Here's a shot from the Spring 2007 issue of Sway Magazine...a local Canadian magazine that's provided free around city newspaper boxes.

They were at the Colour-Blind Gala this past January at our opening! This summer's show is not one to be missed! I will be posting all the info soon! It will be at the end of July/early August in Toronto's Distillery District, in conjunction with the annual Caribana Festival.

Spot of trouble...

So I'm working on a new project...dalmations! A dog I've always loved, ever since the great Disney classic 101 Dalmations. I always thought I'd own my own Pongo and Perdita!

But, I've got my little dynamo Simba...so now I'll settle for putting the dalmation to canvas....

For an easy concept...they are giving me some issues! Four small pieces, only 8"x8"...the same head shot...only with a Warhol twist...they will each be a different pop colour. Going back to my designer hat..printing things on press are done in four colours: CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black)...so that's what I'm doing the dal's in.

Well...once finished...I will post them...wish me luck!

Fashion + Art collided for one night!

I was invited to paint live this past Thursday at the Fashion + Art Workz show in Toronto, at the Bohemian Embassy condo. It was a fantastic event (pics to be posted soon). I was asked to paint live in the lounge area pre and post fashion show, while all the guests milled about. It was electric. Big thanks to Jessica Gorlicky and Nicole Setton for inviting me and putting on a great event that showcased local artists and designers. I did a fun and funky portrait of the beautiful Tracee Ellis Ross. I thought it fit the theme of art and fashion well.

Well, after some long hours of early mornings and late nights, I've completed some new POP DOG portraits. (Please excuse the bad photography...one art I am not good at!...am waiting to get them shot properly...bear with me until then).

One is a headshot of my pup Simba. The other is a great shot of a yellow lab with a tennis ball in its mouth.

Conducter's of Freedom: Portraits of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubmann
Safety's Inside: depicting a slave era hitching post (lawn jockey) that was often used during the underground railroad. When the lantern was lit, this signified to a runaway slave that the home was a safe place for overnight passage and safety.
